| Summer Camp Itinerary
Monday
7:50 am Van arrives at West field Mall for transportation to farm
8:05 am Van departs Westfield Mall for farm
830 am All students arrive at farm
8:30– 845 Final registration and introductions to camp counselors
8;45– 9:00 Safety briefing– How to be safe on the ground
around horses
9:00- 9:15 Students paired up and Horses are assigned
9:15– 10:00 Students are paired with counselors and assisted
in getting their horse
Students are taught how to catch a horse in the field, put a halter
on and lead it to the barn
Students are shown various grooming tools and taught how to groom
their mount
Students groom their horse and learn how to pick up its feet to
clean the hooves.
Tack (saddle, bridle, girth) that will be used on the horses is
explained briefly.
Students are assisted with tacking up their mounts.
10:00-1015 Safety Briefing– How to be safe when mounted on
horseback.
10:15-10:30 Students and horses go to riding ring and are shown
how to mount.
10:30-11:45 Formal Instruction in proper position, balance, steering,
safety.
11:45-12:15 Dismount and lead horses back to barn.
Students are shown how to untack their horse.
Students are assisted in untacking their mount.
Horses are groomed and hosed if necessary,
Students turn horse back outside with assistance of counselor.
12:15-1:15 Students eat lunch and watch a horse related video.
1:15-2:00 Demonstration- students watch a mounted demonstration
on proper riding techniques
covered in their lesson, as well as a jumping demonstration by a
skilled professional
2;00-2:45 Horse anatomy - learn the parts of the horse.
2:45-300 Campers clean up and get ready for pick up or transport
to mall.
3:00 Van departs for Mall/ Parents pick up students at farm
3;20 Van arrives at Mall for drop off
3:45 All campers must be picked up by 3:45 or they will be taken
back to farm.
Tuesday
8:30 All students arrive.
8:45-9:30 Students and counselors catch and bring in assigned horses.
Students groom and tack up horses
9:30-9:45 Students lead horses to ring and mount
9:45-10:45 Formal Instruction in proper position, balance, steering,
safety.
10:45-11;00 Break for water/restroom
11:00-11:45 Musical stalls and Simon says on horseback
11:45-12:15 Dismount and lead horses back to barn. Untack, groom
and cool out horses.
12:15-1:15 Students eat lunch and watch a horse related video.
1:15-2:00 Horse art project
2:00-2:45 Learn what it feels like to ride a horse bareback. Students
take turns riding in the round pen riding bareback
2:45-300 Campers clean up and get ready for pick up or transport
to mall.
Wednesday
8:30 Students arrive
8:45-9:30 Students and counselors catch and bring in assigned horses.
Students groom and tack up horses
9:30-9:45 Students lead horses to ring and mount
9:45-10:45 Trail ride on our 106 acres
10:45-11:00 Break for drinks/restroom
11:00- 11:30 Formal Instruction in proper position, balance, steering,
safety.
11:30-12:00 Dismount and lead horses back to barn. Untack, groom
and cool out horses.
12:00-12;:30 Lunch
12:30-1:00 Students learn the different colors and markings of horses.
1:00-2:30 Swimming
2:30-2:45 Return to barn and change clothes.
2:45-300 Campers clean up and get ready for pick up or transport
to mall.
Thursday
8:30 Students arrive
8:45-9:30 Students and counselors catch and bring in assigned horses.
Students groom and tack up horses
9:30-9:45 Students lead horses to ring and mount
9:45-10:45 Formal Instruction in proper position, balance, steering,
safety.
10:45-11:00 Break for drinks/restroom
11:00-11:30 Musical stalls and Red light green light on horseback
11:30-12:00 Dismount and lead horses back to barn. Untack, groom
and cool out horses.
12:00-1;00 Lunch and horse video.
1:00-2:00 Horse art project
2:00-2:45 Students learn hands-on how to bathe a horse.
2:45-300 Campers clean up and get ready for pick up or transport
to mall.
Friday
8:30 Students arrive
8:45-9:30 Students and counselors catch and bring in assigned horses.
Students groom and tack up horses
9:30-9:45 Students lead horses to ring and mount
9:45-11:15 Games on horseback– students are paired into two
teams and play mounted games that show off their new riding skills
11:30-12:00 Dismount and lead horses back to barn. Untack, groom
and cool out horses.
12:00-1;00 Lunch and horse video.
1:00-1:30 Demonstration in horse health. Veterinary and farrier
care are covered.
1:30-2:30 Bareback riding in the round pen.
2:30-2:45 Review anatomy, different breeds, colors and markings
of horses.
2:45-300 Campers clean up and get ready for pick up or transport
to mall.
